Dyck, Schneider named to Team Canada
Lethbridge’s Mike Dyck is headed back to the world stage.
On Friday, the current Vancouver Giants head coach and former Lethbridge Hurricanes bench boss was selected to represent Team Canada at the upcoming 2021 IIHF World Championship in Riga, Latvia May 21 to June 6.
Joining Dyck - selected as one of Canada’s assistant coaches is fellow WHLer Braden Schneider, the captain of the Brandon Wheat Kings as part of the 25-player roster.
Dyck completed his third season with the Giants, leading Vancouver to a 12-10-0-0 record.
He has twice coached a team to a WHL Conference Championship, doing so with his hometown Hurricanes in 2008 and again with the Giants eleven years later.
Both Schneider and Dyck were part of the Canadian contingent that won a silver medal at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton. Dyck was also the head coach of Canada’s entry at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, again winning a silver medal.
The group will travel to Latvia Sunday.
