Caritas Community Choir sharing “The Gift” with audiences

The Caritas Chamber Choir presents “The Gift” performance at Southminster United Church on Wednesday night.

“The core is pretty much the same,” said Frank Gnandt, Caritas Choir director. “A lot of singers who have had previous experience either have music degrees or vocal degrees, or have some with me in various groups and institutions over the years. So they just love to sing and love to share their musical gift.”

The Caritas Choir do a concert every fall around this time of year, as well as one in the spring.

“From the interpreting of all the repertoire I’m doing, this time of the year, it’s about the Christmas gift season, the gift of Christ, the gift of so many things,” said Gnandt. “A lot of the music reflects around the gift of joy and peace and love and the gift of salvation, the gift of Christ, the gift of Christmas season. And so it has a multiplicity of understanding from that title and I just want it to be an evening of the gift of music from the giver of the gift.”

The repertoire will vary and will span Africa to Ireland, from songs of celebration to heartfelt memories and Christmas classics which will reflect songs of hope, love and peace.

“The Gift” is playing on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

The choir consists of singers from varied backgrounds.

“It was conceived initially as a vehicle for young adults to promote quality choral singing within the community,” as read in the release. “Many have sung in various educational settings and love to continue sharing beautiful music.”
